Wessex Bb Sousaphone SP23S Silver-plated

A silver-plated sousaphone built for marching presence and durability

The Wessex SP23S Silver-Plated BBb Sousaphone is aimed at bands and musicians who need a robust instrument for regular performance while preferring the distinctive appearance of a silver-plated sousaphone. It is particularly attractive for marching and concert bands looking to maintain a consistent professional appearance across their brass section.

Its 18.5 mm bore provides generous airflow, while the 610 mm bell helps establish a strong low-register presence in outdoor environments. The silver-plated finish can provide a slightly more centred playing feel with clear articulation, useful when the bass line needs definition within a large ensemble.

For the demands associated with marching and frequent transport, the instrument features a hardened bell together with a heavy-duty bell collar. These elements provide additional strength around an area that is particularly exposed during assembly, transport and everyday use.

Stainless steel pistons are combined with reinforced nylon guides to provide smooth and dependable action. Nickel inner and outer slides complement the durable construction and are designed to withstand the demands of frequent rehearsals and performances.

At 12.5 kg, the SP23S retains the substantial construction required to produce a solid bass foundation. A lightweight ABS case is also included, providing useful protection and making storage and transportation more practical.

Why choose the silver-plated Wessex SP23S?

The silver-plated finish gives this version its own identity within the range and provides a particularly striking appearance for marching bands and ensembles looking for visual consistency across their brass instruments.

Compared with the lacquered version, the SP23S can offer a slightly more centred playing feel, clear articulation and strong projection. These qualities are particularly useful outdoors and in larger ensembles where definition in the low register is important.

The hardened bell, heavy-duty bell collar and stainless steel pistons complete a durable setup designed for musicians who regularly rehearse, march and perform with their instrument.
