A modern Eb helicon with the comfort of a traditional design
The Wessex HE29 Lacquered Eb Helicon brings the classic helicon concept into the modern era. As the predecessor of the sousaphone, the helicon offers a naturally balanced playing position, placing the instrument's weight closer to the body and creating a lower centre of gravity for exceptional comfort during long performances.
The lacquered finish enhances the instrument's warm, broad and expressive tonal character, producing a rich sound that blends beautifully while maintaining the projection needed for outdoor performances, brass bands and jazz ensembles.
Its generous 17.75 mm bore and 480 mm detachable bell create a full, resonant tone with excellent projection. Four stainless steel piston valves extend the playable range well beyond that of traditional three-valve helicons, making the HE29 suitable for a much wider repertoire.
The adjustable first valve slide allows tuning corrections while playing, while the vented valves ensure smooth valve action. The fourth valve has been positioned for comfortable use by both right- and left-handed musicians. The instrument is supplied with a Wessex Mount Vernon 24AW mouthpiece and a durable moulded ABS case fitted with wheels for easy transportation.
